The historic Whitewater Cut-off Bridge sits in Riverside County of California, over the fast-moving Whitewater River. Sensequake and our partner JMC2 performed a temporary test using our wireless Larzé sensing system to scan the structure and evaluate the overall health and condition of the bridge. Due to rapid flow and varying water levels throughout the year, potential scour around the pier foundations is a relevant point of interest. We were able to obtain the stiffness baseline of the bridge in its current condition, to evaluate the substructural system (piers and foundations) by simply placing our Larzé sensors on the deck of the bridge. Through this test, we were able to provide the County with a successful triage of the health of each of the spans and piers. This key information will be used in their capital planning and future maintenance plans to help increase the service life of the historic bridge.
